After an eight day nation-wide truckers strike, India supply chains are finding normality again. The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) who claim to represent nearly 10 million truckers nationwide took vehicles off the roads to pressure the government to address their concerns regarding diesel fuel taxes, insurance premium costs, toll systems and direct port delivery services.
After a second round of negotiations, Government authorities and India's truckers came to an agreement, of which a committee would be established to examine all core issues and provide recommendations in a specified time frame. The strike may have impacted the transportation of cargo from hinterland locations to Inland Container Depots/ Container Freight Stations (CFS), or meeting Port Gate cut-offs. There may have also been challenges picking up your imports from the Port / CFS. If you have any queries please contact our imports team for more information. New Biosecurity Technology
Australia and New Zealand have announced an agreement to co-operate on technology trials to boost both nations’ biosecurity operations.
Deputy Secretary responsible for biosecurity Lyn O’Connell said the Trans-Tasman Cooperation on Biosecurity Risk Detection Technology Agreement would mean new x-ray technologies being trialled in Australia could be used both here and in New Zealand. “Our department inspects millions of passengers, mail parcels, baggage and cargo containers every year – these new technologies could allow us to do this faster and more effectively,” Ms O’Connell said. “Through this collaboration with New Zealand, we are developing and trialling the next generation of x-ray technology, which has the potential to automatically detect biosecurity risk material in baggage and mail items.” Ms O’Connell advised that this would be a first for both countries and would increase our ability to swiftly identify risk material. Head of Biosecurity New Zealand Roger Smith said the commitment to cooperate reflected a shared understanding of the importance of biosecurity.“Detecting biosecurity risks at the border is becoming increasingly complex for both Australia and New Zealand, with more diverse risks, and volumes of passengers, mail and cargo also expected to rise significantly in coming years,” Mr Smith said.“Working together to explore emerging technologies and innovative use of technologies will be mutually beneficial and help both our countries anticipate and meet future challenges.” Port of Fremantle Container Throughput

June’s throughput was just 1% more than the average monthly throughput for the first half of 2018. Overseas exports in June rose 1% on the previous month to 31,675 TEU, while overseas imports fell 16% to 23,903 TEU. Tomax Warehouse Relocation

A Queensland Joint Organised Crime Taskforce (QJOCTF) operation in collaboration with Maritime Border Command (MBC) arrested two men and charged them with possession of a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.
The Australian Border Force (ABF) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) first spotted the two men heading towards the mainland in a small craft. An Australian Defence Vessel 'Cape Fourcroy' was deployed to intercept the craft but upon approach, the men attempted to evade vessel and discard items onboard into the sea. The ADV Cape Fourcroy crew retrieved the items from the sea, which were identified as containing more than 600 kilograms of cocaine. Pursuit of the small craft was initiated and, assisted by ADF aircraft surveillance. The small craft was later intercepted as a result of MBC surveillance support approximately 40 nautical miles east of Byron Bay. The two men were then arrested by members of the QJOCTF. Commander Maritime Border Command, Rear Admiral Peter Laver, said “Australia’s waters are vast, and we deploy a highly capable suite of ABF and Defence maritime surveillance and response assets at our disposal to detect and intercept illicit imports in collaboration with International, Federal and State Law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Our significant on-water presence has once again seen a large-scale importation of drugs thwarted, keeping hundreds of kilos of cocaine off Australian streets.” Friday Funnies
